Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

Intermodal Trailer - "Memphis" - By Ed McCaslin

This extraordinary intermodal trailer was built by Ed McCaslin. This model was on display at the club's 2000 West Coast Meet in Ontario, California. The model was built from an Atlas undecorated Pines 45' model. The model represents a former Burlington Northern (BN) Railroad trailer that has been purchased by REDON. The BN had a small fleet of trailers and containers that commemorated specific cities around the United States. Not readily apparent in this photo is the nice job Ed did of reproducing the subtle variations in weathering and detail. Note the different colored wheels and writing on the tires. Ed worked from a specific photograph and duplicated all the nuances including the patches on the side of the trailer! The "Memphis" decals were custom made by Brian Kreimendahl (of www.modelintermodal.com fame) on an Alps MD-5000 printer. Look for the article on this project in the June, 2000 issue of Railmodel Journal magazine.
