Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

U-Haul Customer Service Trucks - By Glenn Williams

Occasionally we receive contributions we think are best told by the modeler submitting the photos and in the first person; here's Glenn Williams narrative to go with his photos:

What A Difference A Decade Makes!

Attached are photos of two U-Haul Customer Service trucks that I have kitbashed. The first, which is easily 10+ years old was made from a Trident Chevrolet pickup. At the time, Trident produced the only American made, full-sized pickup truck. While this model has "been around the block" and is showing its age, at the time it represented the best model on the market and is representative of my own modeling skills at the time.

The newer truck is easily recognized as one of the recently produced River Point Station (fantastic) Ford F model pickups. To see the difference in production quality over the last 10+ years is truly amazing to me. I would never take anything away from Trident but the newer design efforts and production techniques are turning out amazing results for modelers and collectors alike.

Additionally, as I look at my modeling skills, I am so grateful to the camaraderie of the 1/87 Vehicle Club. Every time we are all together - and the online communities in between those times - I learn, I grow, and I realize how much there is to this wonderful hobby of ours. When I get into a hotel ballroom, or a trade show set-up, I always come away having learned new and different modeling techniques, and had a chance to spend quality time with other lunatics who get their kicks out of the 1:87 scale world!

I look forward to the next 10 years, watching our club grow, watching the industry comtinue to "WOW" us, and seeing all that our collection of hobby artisans continue to turn out.

Thank you, one and all, for your continued support and friendship!  Model On!

Well spoken, Glenn! - Bob Johnson, webmaster
