Peterbilt 362 Day Cab & McNeilus SMS Concrete Mixer Trailer - By Kevin Shanahan

HERN Concrete operates a number of trailer mounted concrete mixers. These McNeilus SMS sliding Mixer units can legally haul 14 yards of ready mixed concrete in the state of California, grossing out at 80,000 lbs. These units feature a sliding rear tandem axle that extends to an overall length of 57' which provides a distance of 39' between the trailer kingpin and the center of the rear trailer axle. The 39 foot "bridge law" requirement in California allows the unit maximum legal GCW. Once the unit leaves the highway, the unit can be shortened up by approximately 7', getting the overall length down under 50'. This makes for a much more maneuverable unit on the job site. The short wheelbase Peterbilt 362 day cab tractor further improves visibility and maneuverability on the job site where big concrete pours operate around the clock.

The model of the HERN Peterbilt 362 tractor is a cut down Herpa sleeper cab with a shortened wheelbase. The wheels are five hole steel disks from Dennis Aust, including "Super Single" steering axle tires and wheels. The fuel tank is from A-Line, exhaust is from Alloy Forms, Plano deck plates are used, and the tractor and trailer fenders are from Athearn. Paint is Tamiya, decals are from Microscale.

The HERN mixer trailer is kitbashed from two American Limited Intermodal Highway Chassis along with the Athearn fenders, a lengthened Herpa mixer barrel, brass rods and numerous Herpa accessories. Decals are Microscale, paint is Tamiya, wheels and tires are from Dennis Aust.
