Consolidated Freightways Freightliner FL6042 & 24' Doubles - By Dean Hess & Bob Sundstrom

This Consolidated Freight pup set is a transitional scene featuring a Dean Hess power unit and scratchbuilt pups by Bob Sundstrom. Dean has modified the Athearn Freightliner by cutting the cab to 60" BBC and shortening the frame to match. He added the newer Athearn wheels, A-Line mirrors, a creative air cleaner from Promotex parts, air lines, Ulrich mud flaps and decals from Ed O'Keefe for the cab and license plate stack on the front. The pair of dual headlights were replaced by single headlights using pin heads about 3mm in size.

The scratchbuilt pup trailers are each 24-feet in length using .040" Evergreen V-groove sheet for the siding and Evergreen's .080" corner rounds for the nose. Added were A-Line 96" wide roll up doors, suspension, mud flaps and wheels. The landing gear is from CMW with added support struts. The CF water slide decals are from Spaulding Trading and Shipping. Microscale's green trim film was used for the corner angles as CF transitioned from the old Freightways scheme. Lastly, #6 sequin pin heads, painted with Tamiya "clear orange", represent the marker and clearance lights. This model appeared in a recent issue of Model Freightways, a quarterly publication for trucking industry model enthusiasts.
