Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

International Cargostar Fire Pumper - By Thomas Krause

Here are another pair of photos from Thomas Krause of his very neat little International Cargostar fire pumper using a Wiking Cargostar cab and pumper body from an Ivers Engineering white metal kit of a Howe pumper. When Thomas started to build this model about 25 years ago, the Wiking cab was one of the very few of US prototypes at that time.

Modifications were necessary to fit the Wiking chassis and several parts were added, such as the monitor, the quick attack hose reels, the hose bed cover and the ladders. The stutter tone horns on the cab are "Weinert" railway locomotive signal horns, which Thomas reports fit perfectly. At the time Thomas began building his model there was a very similar engine described in the Firehouse Journal magazine and that´s the reason why his model got the traditional Baltimore colors.
