Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

WWII German Anti-Aircraft Half Track Truck - By Rick Hoskinson

The basis for this WWII German anti-aircraft half track truck model is the now obsolete Roco sWS or heavy army tractor. As originally produced over 40 years ago, it was grossly out of scale (see bottom photo for comparison of original to model). The resulting modifications grew the length over 3 scale feet and widened it by a scale foot. The track assemblies had to be relocated as well as reconfigured by cutting them apart and repositioning the rear idlers to a more prototypical position. the track faces were enhanced by adding half round styrene sections to each track shoe. New drop down sides were made from box car roof walk material and the rear of the crew compartment was cut open and an interior added. The 3.7cm flak 43 is a resin kit from Arsenal M with a turned aluminum barrel added. Scratchbuilt items include the exhaust system, brass grabs on cab, roof hatches, license plates and tail light housing. Added details include headlight from Trident, MV Products tail light lens and a pintle hitch from Roco. Paint is Model Masters Panzer dark yellow with a black wash and pastel chalk weathering.
