Promoting Excellence in HO Scale Vehicle Modeling

Freightliner Truck Plant Tour - Portland, Oregon - 1999 Convention

As part of the 1999 1/87 Vehicle Club convention, club members were treated to a tour of the Freightliner Corporation truck assembly plant in Portland, Oregon. Approximately 40 of us were treated to a complete tour of the facility. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take any pictures inside the production areas. Below are some shots of finished vehicles outside on the "ready lot".

med_FLD120.jpg (10276 bytes) This FLD120 is one of the most common Freightliner conventionals seen on the road. As yet there is no model available in 1/87 scale.
med_FLarmy.jpg (11912 bytes) This FLD series cab built for the United States military features "anti-radar" paint. Based on the civilian FLD120, outfitted with all-wheel drive.
med_FLarmy2.jpg (13484 bytes) A slightly different view of the military 6X6 truck tractor.
med_H20test.jpg (15104 bytes) This Century Series is one of the newest Freightliner conventionals seen on the road. Seen here undergoing water leak testing, this unit is part of a large order seen on the assembly line during our visit to the plant. Although announced two years ago as a product under development, there is no model currently available in 1/87 scale.
